A man who fled from the city's criminal courthouse after he learned he would be returned to jail for a positive drug test is now suspected of pointing a gun at someone in New Orleans East over the weekend, according to officials
Police said Walter Jackson drove up to a man walking near the corner of Hayne Boulevard and Vincent Street about 1 a.m. Friday and pointed a pistol at him, which is considered aggravated assault.
Authorities have wanted to arrest Jackson since April 20, when they said he showed up in front of Criminal District Court Chief Judge Benedict Willard while facing charges of principal to theft of a vehicle, contributing to the delinquency of juveniles as well as intimidating a witness.
Jackson was told he had failed a drug test and was ordered to sit down; but he ran out of the courthouse, hopped into a car, and escaped before Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office deputies could capture him, authorities have said.
He has been at-large since, and Saturday's aggravated assault incident reportedly occurred a little more than 1 1/2 miles away from his last known address in the 7400 block of Bullard Avenue.
Police asked anyone who knows where Jackson is to call investigators at 504-658-6070 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.
