Front Yard Bikes is a community bike shop and youth workforce development program with a mission of creating safe spaces for youth to realize their intrinsic worth, while we help them learn, grow, and build! We work with incredible youth who are faced with ethical and moral challenges in their day-to-day lives but strive to build a safer and better world.

Front Yard Bikes was created on a front yard in 2010 when a few college students and neighborhood kids would meet to work in a community garden and repair bikes.  Through organic growth, fueled by the eagerness of youth to learn new skills, FYB evolved into a transformative force. Today, FYB teaches youth mechanics, urban gardening, cooking, welding/fabrication, tutoring, and community bike rides while promoting inclusivity, mentorship, recreation, and academic achievement. We do this through safe, free, after-school and summer programming. Front Yard Bikes has served over 3100+ students and provided 13,000+ bikes to our communities with 3 shops.

The heart of our organization is motivated by compassion for youth from underserved communities, that are willing to work for better opportunities. We hope to impact the youth of Baton Rouge one bike at a time, one heart at a time, because the youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow.
