Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court is seen in Washington, Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

A few years ago I was called and duly selected for jury duty. Before the start of the trial, the judge gave us a good refresher civics lesson on how our government was formed as three distinct branches, with the idea of checks and balances to ensure it worked.

Along comes the coup attempt of Jan. 6, 2021. Kudos to the Capitol police for showing restraint.

Then on July 1, 2024, the gave the president a "get out of jail free" card. On Jan. 20, 2025, Congress quit doing its job.

The president has since gone after the Constitution, higher education, the press, law firms, you name it.

My offspring will have to pay for the debt fostered by this administration. I love my country, but I'm not liking where it’s going.
