Louisiana has begun reporting election results, and the race for U.S. Senate is looking close so far.

As of 9:20 p.m., the Secretary of State’s office had reported totals for early voting and mail-in ballots in 58 out of 64 parishes, plus election day results in more than half of the state’s precincts. Republican Julia Letlow had 56% of the vote and Democrat Jamie Davis had 44%.

But early voting results and many precincts in the state’s urban areas, such as East Baton Rouge Parish and Orleans Parish, had not been reported. Those areas strongly favor Davis.

Unusually β€” particularly among Black voters β€” has made many political observers to question if Davis, a farmer from Tensas Parish, might pull off a major upset against Letlow, who is in her third term in the U.S. House. Several national political handicappers changed their ratings in the race from β€œsafe Republican” to β€œlikely Republican” or even β€œleans Republican.”

But there are still plenty of ballots to be counted. And Letlow supporters have said over the past few weeks that they for their side during Election Day voting.
