A man was shot to death Friday night during a prearranged custody exchange at an apartment complex along Tiger Bend Road, and the boyfriend of his ex-wife has been arrested in the killing.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at an apartment complex in the 15200 block of Tiger Bend Road about 8 p.m. Friday. Deputies found Alex Wilson, 56, suffering from a gunshot wound, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
Wilson was transported to a hospital and died.
During the investigation, detectives learned that Wilson arrived at the apartment for the prearranged pickup of his child from his ex-wife, the release states. While there, Wilson became engaged in a verbal altercation with Marcus Jackson, 44, of New Orleans, the boyfriend of the woman.
Jackson allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Wilson multiple times, then fled the scene, deputies said. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Police Fugitive Task Force tracked Jackson to LaPlace where he was identified through surveillance footage.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT team executed a search warrant of an apartment in LaPlace and arrested Jackson.
He was booked on counts of second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon and auto theft.
Jackson will be transported to the East Baton Rouge Parish jail next week.
