Baton Rouge police investigating the case of a missing teen learned of an alleged illicit relationship between a 16-year-old girl and a 50-year-old man who now faces criminal charges.
Police were investigating the disappearance of 15-year-old Ja’Derrius Minnieweather who was last seen on June 5 in the Ghost Town area of Baton Rouge. During the investigation, police came into contact with a 16-year-old girl.
Using a search warrant for the juvenile’s phone, police found messages between her and Maurice Parms, 50, and several Cash App payments from Parms to the girl.
The juvenile told police in a follow-up interview on Wednesday that she and Parms had started messaging each other in September 2025 using the app Text Now. The most recent messages were in April, police said.
Parms repeatedly told the teen that he loved her and called his 7-year-old daughter the girl’s “stepdaughter.” The teen told police that she had met up with Parms multiple times at his home and his white truck and black SUV.
The juvenile said Parms would take her to stores and buy things for her as well as send her payments through Cash App, police said.
An arrest warrant was issued for Parms on Wednesday for counts of indecent behavior with juveniles and computer-aided solicitation of a minor.
Parms has previous arrests for counts including armed robbery, aggravated assault and simple robbery
