Teurlings Catholic’ junior Abigail Leger races to the finish line in the rain during the Class 4A 4x800-meter relay at the LHSAA outdoor championships on May 9, 2026, at the Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge.

Teurlings Catholic junior Abigail Leger enjoyed quite a year.

Not only did Leger finish as the Division II state runner-up in cross country, but she also brought home three outdoor track and field state championships in May.

Leger, who had the best time in the 1,600-meter run and the second-best time in the 800 among area runners, won state championships in both events with times of 2 minutes, 15.72 seconds in the 800 and 5:06.99 in the 1,600.

Leger also helped lead a Rebels 4x800 relay team that posted the best time in the area to a state title with a time of 9:28.33.

It was a record-setting year for Leger, who set school records in the 800, 3,200 and as a member of the 4x400 relay team, while Teurlings’ 4x800 relay broke the state’s composite record this season.

Leger’s performance was instrumental to the Rebels’ success, which saw Teurlings win the first outdoor track and field state championship in school history.

"This championship means so much because every single girl contributed to this title and this legacy in some way," coach Kelly LaMaison said. "Whether it was scoring points, stepping into a relay, supporting teammates or sacrificing individual goals for the team."

For her efforts, Leger was named the Acadiana Advocate’s All-Metro most outstanding track performer.
