Scott police officer Caleb Lege was elected as Scott chief of police defeating his opponent Kert Thomas in an race held on Tuesday night.

Lege received 51% of the vote out of 2,853 votes cast. Thomas received 49% of the vote. Unofficial turnout was 36.7%.

Lege, a veteran of the Scott Police Department since 1999, ran on an increased focus on traffic enforcement and modernizing the department with respect to how it handles mental health crises.

“You have to have officers trained in de-escalation and how to address mental health crises,” he said. “If we’re dealing with a kid with autism or a veteran with PTSD, we need officers that know how to respond to that.”]

Scott residents also voted for several city council seats. In District 1 Jakob Goodwin received 82% of the vote defeating challenger Nahia Simon. In District 2 Terry Montoucet received 52% of the vote defeating Sherie Stutes Sonnier. In District 4 Allyson Soeseno Richard received 50.46% of the vote defeating Bob Boudreaux.
