A St. Landry Parish jury on Thursday found Nicholas Aymond, 30, of Lafayette, guilty in connection with the April 2, 2020, death of Stanley Aultman II, 64, also of Lafayette.
St. Landry Parish District Attorney Chad Pitre of the 27th Judicial District, said the jury’s decision was unanimous.
Aymond was found guilty of second-degree murder, which carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment at hard labor.
Sentencing is set for May 14.
Aultman was found dead on La. 359 ear Washington. His family told detectives that Aultman left in his car with Aymond to go to the store but never returned.
Prosecutors and detectives determined that Aultman left his Lafayette home on April 2, 2020, to bring Aymond to the store, Pitre said in a news release.
Evidence, he said, showed the two men driving to La. 359 in the Washington area where Aymond allegedly shot Aultman three times, threw his body out of the car and rolled over Aultman several times before driving away to meet his girlfriend about 10 minutes away.
Fenton Police located Aultman’s vehicle abandoned in a rural area with blood stains and a bullet hole. They found Aymond not far away.
